Taking Back Control (2023)

Motion Graphics Designer

Lloyd Edgar designed and animated the motion graphics for Taking Back Control, a documentary broadcast on RTÉ Oneand RTÉ Player. Directed by Trevor Birney and produced by Fine Point Films for RTÉ, the film provides a first-hand account of coercive control from survivor Nicola Hanney, whose former partner — then-Garda Paul Moody — was convicted in a landmark July 2022 prosecution.

The film's motion graphics support included on-screen text treatments for the staggering 31,000+ abusive communications Hanney received, timeline animations mapping the pattern of coercive control over years, and sensitive infographic work illustrating the scale of domestic abuse and coercive control prosecutions in Ireland — designed to add factual weight without diluting the personal testimony at the film's heart.

The film premiered on RTÉ One on 11 December 2023 at 9.35pm.

Taking Back Control is available on RTÉ Player.
