I'm a Belfast-based broadcast documentary editor

with credits across BBC One, BBC Northern Ireland, Channel 5, RTÉ and TG4.

I cut character-led documentary, factual entertainment, drama-doc and Irish-language broadcast television, and I work both remotely and on-site with a mobile edit suite.

My Approach

As a Belfast documentary editor, my approach is craft-first: I cut for story, character and emotional arc, with a particular sensitivity to pacing in observational documentary.

I bring a story-development perspective to the timeline — useful for projects still finding their shape in the cut, and for productions where edit and direction need to stay tightly aligned.

Common Questions About Post-Production

How much does it cost to hire a documentary editor? Editor day rates in the UK and Ireland typically range from £350 to £600 depending on deliverables and turnaround. For longer projects I work on a week, fortnight or per-cut basis — usually more cost-effective for both parties than daily billing. Drop me a brief and I'll come back with a clear quote.

Can you edit remotely? Yes. My edit suite is based in Belfast and I work remotely with producers, directors and production companies across the UK, Ireland and internationally. I use Google Drive for media handoff and review, and I can run live sessions over Zoom or Teams.

Do you work in-house? Yes. As a Belfast documentary editor, I have a fully portable mobile edit suite (M4 MacBook Pro, 4K display, full Adobe Creative Cloud) and can work on-site at a production company, broadcaster or client location.

What software do you cut in? I use Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects for motion graphics. I'm comfortable receiving and delivering in any common broadcast-spec format.

How long does a typical documentary edit take? A 30-minute broadcast documentary typically needs 6–10 weeks in the edit, depending on volume of rushes, complexity of story and number of approval rounds. Shorter brand films and corporate edits run on much faster cycles — sometimes a week or less.

Do you offer rough cuts, fine cuts, or full delivery? All of the above. I can come on board at any stage — from selects and stringouts through to picture lock, online and delivery. Tell me where you're at and what you need next.
